I’m going to the Yukon!
Welcome to my next blogging adventure!
Follow me in the car across Canada as I drive from Brantford to the Yukon with a few stops along the way. Wait...what?! Are you for real?
The first response I usually get when I tell someone I’m driving to the Yukon is a wide-eyed blank stare. Then followed with;
“By yourself?”
“Can I come and/or do you want company?”
“How long is that going to take?”
“By yourself?” (Yes, they ask several times).
Most of you who know me well, know I have an adventurous soul. I usually jump at the opportunity to take off as often as I can, with any excuse I can. So here’s how it all came about:
My sister-in-law put a post on Facebook; “Anyone want to drive Paul’s (my step bro) car from Ontario to BC?” I wasn’t on FB the day she posted so I totally thought I missed out. I saw in the comments that lots of folks wanted to, but for various reasons weren't able to follow through. So I responded with a simple “Yes:)”
I expressed that I was willing to take it all the way to Whitehorse, where they are now living (having just moved from Brantford back to the Yukon), but the 14 day quarantine was a stretch. "Unless they let me enter the Territory and go straight to the airport to fly back home?!" She emailed the Yukon and they agreed this would be possible. "Alright then, I’ll drive it to the Yukon!"
(Like a lot of the decisions I make in life, I jump in head first and figure out the details later *especially when it comes to travel!*)
Arrangements were made and I head out on my adventure Friday morning. How long? Hmm, that all depends on how many stops I make along the way (and I have a few loosely planned;)). Of course during these “unprecedented times” I’ll be travelling ONLY through Canada and stopping in each province, with a layover in Vancouver. From there, I’ll head north for another 28hr-ish drive to Whitehorse airport. I’ve downloaded some good (hopefully) audio books and already started creating driving playlists as well as a list of road snacks for the long drive across the country; so I figure the rest is just details:) I figure about 5 days to Vancouver, 2-3 days IN Vancouver, then head north through the mountains to the Yukon. Or, at least that's the "plan."
Stay tuned for posts on my next big adventure and see how this all plays out!
